Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has approved the setting up of Punjab Thalassemia and Other Genetic Disorders Prevention and Research Institute during the syndicate meeting of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University on Saturday.
Fatima Jinnah Medical University Registrar Dr Shirin presented the agenda items. The legal issues about the appointment of contractual and ad hoc employees came under discussion and the selection board was approved for interviews of assistant programmers.
Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said the institute was being set up as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Sardar UsmanBuzdar.

“The genetic testing facility is available in Punjab. Many lives can be saved by properly planned interventions. The Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Project is the largest programme in the world,” she said.
“Punjab has the pre-natal diagnostic facility. Thousands of children are suffering from genetic disorders in Punjab. Training on the latest modules shall be ensured.
