KARACHI:

A case against the alleged theft of 250 tolas of gold from locker at a private bank was registered at the Clifton police station in Karachi on Thursday and a committee was set up to investigate the matter.

Initial investigations suggested that all routes leading to and from the bank were safe. Meanwhile, it could not be immediately determined whether the locker was broken open as there was no evidence to suggest so.

Clifton police investigation officer asked the bank officials concerned to provide complete CCTV recordings. Investigating authorities shared that a woman, who was in possession of the locker, checked it after a period of one-and-a-half years. Police said that the complainant claimed that 250 tolas of gold was missing from the locker.

She was not the sole operator and shared the locker with several other women, investigators said refusing to sahre the name of the complainant.

Authorities suspected that a bank employee or co-locker owner may be involved in the incident. The police were also taking into account the involvement of locker owners in similar incidents recently reported in Clifton.

Investigation police started recording statements of the locker owners and bank employees. According to them, the case was being investigated from every angle and would be resolved soon.
