Primary schools to resume classes from June 21 in Sindh

Shrines, amusement parks and indoor gymnasiums to reopen from June 28

KARACHI:

The Sindh government announced on Saturday that classes for primary schools (Grade V and lower) will resume Monday, June 21, as Covid-19 cases decline in the province.

The decision to open resume classes for primary grades was taken during a meeting of the province's Covid-19 task force.

The meeting, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, also decided to reopen shrines, amusement parks and indoor gymnasiums from June 28.

The forum was also appraised on the current Covid-19 positivity ratio in the province, which hovers around 3.9pc. However, the positivity ratio in Karachi is still around 8.08pc and 4.3pc in Hyderabad.

"The reduction in cases is conditional on the implementation of SOPs by the public," the chief minister said.

The forum was further informed that so far, Sindh had received around 3.2 million doses of different Covid-19 vaccines, out of which 2.8 million had been administered.

It was further decided to close all vaccination centres across the province for one day on June 20 in view of the shortage of Covid-19 jabs.

The provincial chief executive told the forum that the Russian Covid-19 vaccine 'Sputnik V' would be available in Sindh by the last week of June.

"In addition, the province will receive 1.5 million doses of SinoVac vaccine on June 21 and on June 23 about 700,000 doses of Cansino and 400,000 doses of PakVac," CM Murad said.
