Two fishermen died and nine others were taken to hospital on Wednesday after consuming toxic alcohol in the Ibrahim Hyderi area of the city.
The affected fishermen were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Indus Hospital. Ibrahim Hyderi SHO Muhammad Ali Shah said fishermen arrived between at the mentioned medical facilities between 9am and 12.30pm. The SHO feared that the number of affected fishermen could increase.
The source of the liquor remained unknown, but a few fishermen stated that one of their peers, Gul Hasan, found five litres of alcohol from an island.
On the contrary, a few fishermen claimed a foreigner had provided the alcohol to Hasan. Sources added that bodies of the deceased fishermen were not taken to the hospital and later buried without being reported.
