Steps to emotional fulfilment

A few steps to finding and creating your own emotional fulfillment

June 10, 2021

Emotional fulfilment varies person to person. It’s important to understand that not everything that works for others will work for you. We need to find our own path and create our own happiness which will lead to emotional fulfilment.

Here are a few steps to find and create your own emotional fulfilment:

Be with others who bring joy:

As cliché as this sounds, studies show that we are the happiest around those who are also happy. Stick around those who bring joy and help create a happy place for you (this includes pets).

Hold onto your values:

Stick to your truth, what you know is fair and right and what you believe in. It’s healthy to keep an open mind and understand things from different perspectives but what makes you truly happy is when you’re true to yourself and what you believe in. Over time, the more you honour them, the better you will feel about yourself and those you love.

Look at the bright side:

We are in no way encouraging toxic positivity where you dismiss or suppress the negativity around or inside you but it’s important to not let that steal away your opportunity of living life to the fullest.

Imagine the best:

Ask yourself if you had no insecurities or fears what would you do? And go ahead and do just that. Don’t be afraid of failures and disappointments, they are only a lesson in disguise. Many individuals avoid this process because they don’t want to be disappointed if things don’t work out. The truth is that imagining getting what you want is a big part of achieving it.

Do things you love:

Set realistic expectations. We all love to travel or take vacations every season but it’s not realistic to do unless you have the means or opportunity for it. Find little things in your everyday life that bring you joy. Spending time with your pet, gardening, painting, yoga anything which brings you true joy.

Find purpose:

Those who believe they are contributing to the well-being of humanity tend to feel better about their lives. Most people want to be part of something greater than they are, simply because it’s fulfilling.

Listen to your heart:

You are the only one who knows what brings you true joy. Your family and friends might think you’re great at something or have the potential of doing something but it’s you who truly knows what makes you happy and will make you emotionally fulfilled.

Push yourself, not others:

This can be a hard pill to swallow. While it’s easy to blame others for our lack of emotional fulfilment, this kind of energy is not productive. We have to learn to change our perspective and take full responsibility of where we are at in life. Once you realise that you have the power to get where you want to go you will then make the required changes to get there.

Be open to change:

In the world of emotional fulfilment, expect the unexpected. It’s important to explore and understand that unless we haven’t tried a thing we can’t say for sure if it’ll bring us happiness. Don’t be scared of trying new things and of changes. Even if it doesn’t feel good, change is the one thing you can count on. Change will happen, so make contingency plans and emotionally shore yourself up for the experience.
