KARACHI:

The Model Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport foiled a bid of smuggling electronic gadgets worth Rs9.4m to Karachi while arresting two men during an operation at Jinnah International Airport (JIA) on Tuesday.

According to JIA Deputy Collector Inam Wazir, the arrested men, identified as Muhammad Sufiyan and Wasi, who travelled from Dubai to Karachi via Emirates flight no EK-606, were booked under Customs Act.

The passengers tried to get away by leaving the queue for coronavirus testing after their arrival and moved towards International Departure lounge, claimed Wazir. He said that the passengers then tried to escape through green channel when they found themselves being monitored by the customs officials dressed in plain clothes in Customs Satellite Area.

Wazir said the Customs officials confiscated a lot of electronic gadgets found in two trolley bags, two shoulder bags and a plastic bag, carried by the passengers. The confiscated items included 16 Apple iPhones, eight MacBooks, two play stations and 36 Rado watches, he added.
