Body of murdered man found in water tank

Cops say victim’s throat was cut with sharp-edged object

KARACHI:

The body of a man with his throat slit open was found from an underground water tank of a house in Orangi Town Sector L12 on Monday night.

The police shifted the deceased, identified as Muhammad Shamsuddin, 54, to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

According to the police, the perpetrators threw Shamsuddin's body in the tank after murdering him with a sharp weapon.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Shamsuddin's sister said that Shamsuddin worked in a garments factory and had two children. She said that Shamsuddin's wife had left at 3pm for her parents' house with the children for Iftar on Monday and Shamsuddin was alone at the house on the day of incident.

According to Shamsuddin's sister, his wife and children found everything in the house scattered and Shamsuddin absent, when they returned home at night.

The family called Shamsuddin's mobile phone but it was switched off, she claimed, adding that they inquired from relatives and Shamsuddin's friends but no one knew anything about him.

She specified that soon, Shamsuddin's son, Asif, found him lying face-down in the underground water tank when he impulsively removed its lid to check. Asif pulled Shamsuddin out of the tank and found him dead, she added.

The deceased's sister further stated that he had been living in a rented house in the same neighborhood until two years ago, when he bought his own house, which according to her, made many people unhappy.

She claimed that Shamsuddin's new house was once robbed and Asif was detained in a separate instance by unidentified men, who released him after beating him up and snatching his belongings.

We suspect some people but cannot say anything currently, she added.
