PM's commitment for accountability won't be deterred, says Ismail

Says Tareen has expressed confidence in party's counsel for resolution of standoff

ISLAMABAD:

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said on Thursday that Jahangir Tareen knows well about Prime Minister Imran Khan's unwavering commitment on accountability and that it won't be deterred.

"Jahangir Tareen known well that the premier won't show any flexibility on accountability and that he won't change the process for anyone," Ismail said.

His remarks came as he addressed a press conference in Islamabad. He was accompanied by federal minister for information Fawad Chaudhry on the occasion.

Observing that Tareen has remained PM's close aide, Ismail said, "Imran Khan won't subject him to a discriminate behaviour."

"Tareen doesn't wish bad for the party. Prime Minister believes that he will face the allegations against him. The investigation report will be submitted to the premier once it is ready."

The governor further said that Tareen has expressed confidence in PTI's counsel Ali Zafar. He hoped that the allegations leveled against the disgruntled leader will prove to be false."

On Tuesday, Prime Minister assured the disgruntled lawmakers representing Tareen that there will no injustice with them.

A total of 28 PTI lawmakers – including MNAs and MPAs – called on the premier for “seeking justice” for the disgruntled PTI leader who is among the sugar mills owners facing Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) crackdown.

“My policy is clear. I don’t even believe in doing injustice even to my opponents during the accountability process. Jahangir Tareen is my friend and an important leader of the party. However, we are all accountable to law,” Imran was quoted as saying.

The premier said the PTI came into power with the slogan of merit and justice. He said when the price of sugar started to surge last year then it became the duty of the government to bring those responsible for it to book.
