The Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Operations) Afzal Ahmed Kausar has said that an operation against drug dealers, particularly, its suppliers, is underway in the federal capital.
He mentioned that the capital police conducted operations against drug peddlers in Uthal village on Monday and booked 18 drug smugglers.
While addressing a presser with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Dr Syed Mustafa Tanvir, he added that special squads have been formed to curb the menace.
Kausar said the police booked six drug peddlers from Doray village and recovered 3,730 grammes (gms) of heroine and 110 gms of hashish from their possession.
In an operation at Uthal village, the federal police apprehended 12 suspects and seized 22 kilogrammes (kgs) of hashish, one kg of heroin, 70 gms of ice-meth, one plaster, a shotgun, and ammunition from the culprits.
DIG Operations said that during the current month, the police cracked down on drug dealers who supplied drugs in educational institutions and booked 55 suspects, including nine Nigerian nationals. He added that the police seized 3.27 kgs of hashish, four kgs of heroin, 16 gms of cocaine, 60 gms of ice-meth, 270 tablets, and 388 liquor bottles from the suspects’ possession.
Kausar said that the drug dealers were destroying the future of children and assured that the police has wedged a full-scale war with them. He informed that the police formulated an effective plan against drug dealers.
DIG said that their crackdown would continue without discrimination. He added that the action against drug dealers would be expedited as such elements were a threat to law and order. He vowed that lethargy in action against such criminals would not be tolerated at any cost.
He also urged the citizens to help the police in the restoration of peace, maintaining law and order, and provide information against suspected elements, including drug peddlers and gamblers, to the police. He assured that the name of complainants would not be unveiled.
Kausar said that in accordance with the government’s vision, the capital police were taking all required steps to protect the lives and properties of the citizens. He added that implementation on important projects, including free registration of crimes was underway and the citizens were being provided relief at every level.
