Women help catch ‘killer’ dumper driver

Suspect was speeding away after crushing two bikers

A man driving a dumper truck recklessly on the Qayumabad Flyover crushed two bikers under its wheels.

The loading vehicle was heading towards Defence Housing Authority from Korangi Industrial Area via the Qayumabad Flyover when it knocked down Zubair Riaz, 34, and Aziz Arshad, 41, who were going on a motorbike.

People were shocked to see one of the victims dragged under the wheels of the mammoth truck till his body was dismembered on the intersection in front of Imtiaz Supermarket, an eyewitness said.

However, as the trucker tried to escape the scene, two women in a car chased him and informed the traffic police on the Khyaban-e-Ittehad traffic signal about the incident.

The traffic cops chased the dumper and arrested its driver, Khalil, and handed him over to the Defence police. The vehicle was also impounded at the Defence police station. Police appreciate the courage of the women who kept their senses and helped in apprehending the culprit.

The incident had occurred in the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area police, therefore the suspect and the truck were handed over the police station concerned.

Korangi Industrial Area police station SHO Khushnood Javed said that both the victims were friends. Zubair lived in Korangi while Aziz lived in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
