LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday directed the police to provide attested copies of the case record to the police officials including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), on account of a fake encounter.

At the previous hearing, the court could not frame charges against the policemen owing to incomplete case record provided to the accused. The hearing was adjourned till August 17.

On Thursday, jail authorities produced the accused, DSP Riasat Bajwa, Sub Inspector Muhammad Riaz and Constables Muhammad Asif and Abdul Qadir before Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani.

The counsel for the accused requested the court to direct the officials concerned to provide attested copies of the case record to the accused. The judge then directed the police to provide the attested copies with original stamps of the police station concerned.

According to the prosecution, the deceased, Shahbaz Butt, had robbed Makkah Medical Store in Youhanabad of Rs35,000. Butt, however, was caught by the shop owner and handed over to police. Butt’s father said in the FIR that Sub Inspector Riaz shot his son near Rohi Drain on the behest of the DSP.
