RAWALPINDI:

The accountability process in the Punjab police has progressed to the next stage as the record of criminal cases registered against gazetted police personnel has been sought.

On the directions of Punjab Police Inspector General, the Discipline AIG sent a letter seeking the record of all cases and criminal action lodged against gazetted police officers to police high-ups.

According to details, all regional, district, city officers and other department heads have been instructed to provide a record of cases registered against police officers deployed in the province between 2001 and 2021.

The officials have been directed to fill the pro forma containing columns for name, current rank and rank at the time the case was registered. A column in the pro forma is designated for the first information report (FIR) number and date too.

The details of whether the case has been dismissed or still in progress will also be mentioned. The document will include details of whether the gazetted officer was convicted or acquitted.

Previously, the Punjab police chief relieved around 60 SHOs and investigation officers from their duties for having criminal records.
