DIJKOT:

A woman was reportedly subjected to sexual assault during a robbery on Saturday.

According to the police report, a group of robbers broke into the house of Muhammad Ashraf. The victim had been living in the house with her husband near Nadwala Road, Chak No 35 JB.

The dacoits looted Rs10,000 in cash and two and a half tolas of gold jewelry from the house. They also allegedly molested Ashraf’s wife during the robbery.

After informing Rescue 1122, police officials rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. According to DSP Sadar Jamshed Iqbal Nasir Chishti, the family members were asked to lodge a complaint so that further legal action could be taken.

Police officials said the family had reported the robbery at night and the abuse during the incident in the morning.

They said the complainants had said that they could identify the robbers.

In a similar incident earlier this year, a woman was reportedly murdered after sexual assault during a robbery in Shahdara area of the provincial metropolis in January.

The unidentified suspected robbers barged into a house in Lalazar Colony. The victim had been living in the house with her husband Umar Baig, mother-in-law and children. Her husband was a transporter.

On the day of the incident, he and the children went to a market to buy items for the birthday party of one of them. When they returned, they found the victim in a pool of blood on a bed, while gold ornaments and cash were missing from the house.

Initial investigations suggested that the crime might have been committed by someone close to the family as the house had an automatic lock.
