KARACHI:

The week began with multiple thefts reported in the metropolis. Robbers took away with bonds worth millions of rupees, cash and other valuable items.

In the biggest heist of the year thus far, five to six robbers, embarked on three motorcycles, intercepted the worker of a construction company as he made his way to a bank on Jamshed Road.

According to Jamshed Town SP Farooq Bajrani, the worker, Asif, left his office on Jamshed Road No3 with bonds worth Rs30 million.

He was accosted by half a dozen robbers on three motorcycles near the Total Petrol Pump, said the police, adding that the perpetrators had their faces hidden under helmets, masks and caps.

The incident occurred around 11.28 am when Asif was making his way to a private bank located on Jamshed Road No2 to deposit the bonds, added the police.

Bijrani shared that Asif is the personal rider of the builder, Kashan Bantwa, who is associated with the Al Jannat Group of Companies.

A case was lodged in light of Asif’s statement, said the SP, adding that the police have acquired the CCTV footage of the site and other evidence and have launched further investigations.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Express Tribune Bantwa said that the SP and his team visited the company’s office and the crime site and assured Bantwa of arresting the perpetrators soon.

House robbery

Earlier in the morning, six armed men barged into a house in Gulshan-e-Umair, Malir Cant and held the family hostage. The robbers swept the premises off gold jewelry, cash, mobile phones and other valuables within minutes and fled.

The police arrived soon after receiving the complaint and collected fingerprints and other evidence to probe into the matter.

Malir Cant SHO Faisal Latif told The Express Tribune that the robbery took place at 8.00am when the family members were leaving for work. He said that the loss incurred by the family was being estimated and efforts for the arrest of robbers were underway.

The man whose house was robbed, namely Asad, is a bank employee, added the SHO.

Thieves raid school

Moreover, three robbers reportedly sneaked into a private school’s building in Clifton Block 9 around 4 am in the morning.

The thieves snatched the school security guard’s repeater gun and injured him with a sharp object as he tried to resist.

The perpetrators stole a generator, air conditioner, LCD and two laptops, loaded them onto a large vehicle and fled taking the guard’s gun with them.

The police shifted the security guard, identified as Amjad Ali, 28, to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and launched investigations.

South SSP Zubair Nazeer Shaikh said the number of robbers according to Ali’s statement was three, but the police suspect that more of the robbers’ accomplices were present outside the school at the time of the crime.

The case pertaining to the robbery was later registered by Clifton Police on behalf of Ali.

Snatchers wreak havoc

Meanwhile, the CCTV footage of four other citizens being looted by three unidentified men in Azizabad Block 2 went viral on social media.

One of the suspects can clearly be seen pointing a gun at citizens in the footage as the other empties the pockets of citizens, while the third, wearing a helmet, kept their motorcycle ready to escape.
