An anti-terrorism court acquitted on Wednesday a Pakistan Peoples Party-affiliated union council vice-chairperson, Ali Nawaz Soomro, his father, Suleman Soomro, and brother, Shahnawaz Soomro, of attacking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and MPA Ramzan Ghanchi.
The court acquitted the three men, who were out on bail, on the basis of the lack of evidence.
Defence lawyer Advocate Abid Zaman had also contended that the prosecution had failed to present evidence or witnesses against his clients.
Ali and Shahnawaz were accused of shooting and injuring Ghanvhi over a dispute pertaining to an illegal water connection in Napier in 2019.
Separately, the court sentenced five years of penal servitude to a man, Ahmed Qureshi, after finding him guilty in an extortion case.
The court also imposed a penalty of Rs25,000 on Qureshi.
