If I get surgeries, I will own up to it: Mathira

Actor responds to the trolls body-shaming her since her recent appearance on a talk show

Unashamed and unabashed, former VJ Mathira is known for nose-diving into controversies and swimming her way across them since she first silenced a troll on live television.

Her brazen nature and witty sense of humour made her popular like none other, albeit, her sarcasm was lost on many Pakistanis. So after a recent interview of hers with Tabish Hashmi revived the public’s lost interest in her deviances [read, way of life], some started to body-shame her for having gained weight.

In the process, many also accused her of getting surgeries while slut-shaming her once again. In response to this sudden outburst, Mathira took to her Instagram stories and wrote, “I'm chubby and I'm happy like this. Who are you to shame me? Focus on yourself please.”

She went onto assert that she’d had enough of people judging her for her looks, and revealed she had only gained weight because of ‘hormonal imbalances’. "I'm so tired of people asking why I have [gotten] implants and all... Seriously, it's a shame. I have hormonal imbalance issues. Stop it."

It's sad how she had to provide a justification for her size, when no one should owe anyone else an explanation for their appearance. The host then argued that if she had really gotten surgeries, she would’ve owned up to them – just like she owns up to everything else.

"If I get surgeries, I will certainly own up to it. I have put on weight. Please stop this nonsense of calling me plastic," Mathira lashed out.

On Hashmi’s TBH, when asked about her sex symbol status, Mathira had said, “Every single person does what they prohibit others from doing. If it weren’t for sex, none of us would be present in the world. Why overly exaggerate and categorise things as vulgar? Our people have a problem: their eyes dart towards something else, while speaking about a very serious matter.”
