ILO wants stakeholders to eliminate child labour

Stakeholders identified opportunities, strengths and needs to address child labour

ISLAMABAD:

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) organised a workshop on national stakeholders' consultation to celebrate the 'International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour 2021', a spokesperson said on Thursday.

Stakeholders from government, workers and employers associations, United Nations agencies and researchers identified opportunities, strengths and needs to address child labour in the priority sectors, including research and data collection, legislation and enforcement, advocacy, awareness-raising and support services (education, protection, vocational education and skills).

The event was attended by the ILO country director, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office representatives, Ministry of Overseas and Human Resource Development officials, and various workers’ and employers’ organisations.

"It is time to accelerate the pace of progress, to inspire legislative and practical actions and to eliminate child labour for good," said the ILO country director.
