KARACHI:

Senate chairperson Sadiq Sanjarani has advised the opposition not to take the matter of Senate proceedings to court as matters pertaining to Senate cannot be challenged in the top court.

He made these remarks on Wednesday after offering Fateha at Quaid's Mazar.

He was accompanied by Senate deputy chairperson Mirza Muhammad Afridi.

Sanjarani said he had made no commitment to join Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

He pointed out that in Senate top seat election in 2018, PPP co-chairperson Asif Zardari had ensured that his party voted for him to be elected the Senate chairperson.

On the occasion, Afridi said he was elected to the post of the Senate deputy chairperson as an independent candidate but had now joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

He reiterated Sanjrani's assertion that the upper house's proceedings could not be challenged in court.

Separately, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail hosted a lunch in honour of Sanjrani and Afridi at the Governor House.

The Governor briefed both the dignitaries on development projects initiated in Karachi by the federal government.

On the occasion, Sanjarani said the time had come to enact laws for provision of more facilities to the people.
