Man jumps into canal after fleeing from police custody

DIJKOT:

 A man, the main suspect in the rape and murder of a minor boy, committed suicide by jumping into a canal after escaping from police custody late on Sunday night in the area of Mamoun Kanjan police station in Punjab

A police spokesman said on Monday that a minor boy went missing from Chak 509-GB on March 11. Allah Ditta, the father of the minor boy, had reportedly sent him to his friend Shahid Mahmood’s home in the Tambakuwalan area.

He stated that the minor boy was playing outside the home when he was kidnapped by some unidentified suspects.

 Mamoun Kanjan Police Station SHO Sub-Inspector Naeem Alamuddin said the police registered a case under section 363, 363, and 377 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the missing boy’s father.

“We detained Shahid Mehmood and Zeeshan Manzoor on suspicion. Upon interrogation, Zeeshan conceded that he had raped the minor boy,” the official said.

 Manzoor reportedly revealed that after kidnapping the 12-year-old, he took the minor to his outhouse and raped him. The boy made a noise and told him that he would tell everything to his parents.

 “So I strangled him out of fear and threw his body near Saim Nullah under Lal Tehrana Bridge,” the suspect reportedly told the police. The suspect handed over a 30-bore pistol, four bullets and one rope, and an elastic band to the police.

 Later, he managed to escape from the custody of the police, and jumped into a nullah, following which, the policemen also jumped into the water. The suspect was safely taken out from the river and shifted to a hospital, where he passed away after battling for life.

ASI Ghulam Jaffar handed over the body to the family of the deceased after a post-mortem.

 SHO Mamun Kanjan Naeem Aleemuddin said the suspect after the recovery of the weapon and rope, shouted in loud voice, "I have done big injustice. Now, I have no right to live” and jumped into the river.

On January 8, a man sexually assaulted before murdering his eight-year old minor brother whose body was recovered from a drain in Nishtar Colony, Lahore.

The victim was a differently[1]abled child. Reportedly, police found clues that the suspect was a serial paedophile killer.

 A cousin of the victim, a five[1]year-old boy, had also gone missing five months prior to this incident. On December 27 last year, a seven-year-old minor girl had been assaulted after strangling to death by two suspects including her cousin in Sundar area of Lahore.

 The suspects had dumped her body into a pond to hide their crime. Two weeks prior to this incident an alleged serial rapist who sexually assaulted six minor girls in Sarai Mughal area of Pattoki was arrested by the police.

 A case had been registered against the suspect. Police said the suspect used to lure girls by different means. The victims were between 10 and 12 years of age and he had been arrested on the identification of the victims.
