Doctor, three technicians remanded for ‘raping woman’

The survivor was admitted to health facility for leg surgery

KARACHI:

A woman admitted to a private medical centre for a leg surgery in Larkana was allegedly subjected to gang rape on Friday.

The police produced three of the four accused persons, who were rounded up on Friday night, before a judicial magistrate on Saturday and obtained their five-day physical remand for interrogation.

The woman, G*, accused a doctor and three technicians of raping her after making her unconscious in the operation theater (OT).

According to the police, she said she regained consciousness during the act and began shouting, after which other staff entered the OT.

The police were immediately called to the health facility. Three of the four accused persons were arrested and shifted to the police station while the doctor was allowed to go home.

The accused, Dr Shoaib Chandio and technicians Aqeel Bhutto, Taufeeq Laghari and Ali Nawaz Narejo, have been booked in an FIR at Sachal Police Station. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of G's husband, N*.

The Sachal SHO said the police did not arrest Chandio immediately after the complaint was brought before them on Friday. However, he added, after registration of the FIR the doctor was apprehended.

The SHO the initial report of G's medical examination was still awaited. The examination was performed at Chandka Medical College Hospital.

The DNA samples of G and accused persons have also been collected for testing.

Meanwhile, G's Family has accused the police of trying to weaken the case. They demanded that the SHO should be removed from his post and the hospital's owner should also be nominated in the FIR.
