PESHAWAR:
The provincial government’s proposed plan to launch an air-conditioned mass transit system (MTS) in Peshawar has been welcomed by Citizens for Clean Environment (CCE), a civil society organisation.
According to a press release issued by CCE on Wednesday, CCE has said that MTS and monorails should be preferred over construction of roads and flyovers, which cost billions of rupees while causing greater environmental damage.
Environmental sustainability and natural forests are an integral part of human civilization, while the destruction of forests will eventually result in disruption of the environment, said the press release.
The mountain top of Maalam Jabba, a popular eco-tourism site known for its biodiversity, has come under the axe to create monstrous camps, CCE added.
The Ministry of Environment should take action and request military and civilian officials to provide an Environmental Impact Assessment and other legal mandate needed for work in environmentally endangered regions.

Forestation and preserving the existing forests is a matter of great importance. Lets educate the people around us about its importance and set an example by planting a tree ourselves today.The authorities must keep proper check on forest department because this is among the most corrupt departments and is responsible for this uncontrolled cutting of forests.
@ Faisal . Totally agreed. Their should be a reforestation campaign in whole of Pakistan. Especially Swat , Galliyats and areas surrounding our cities! Man made forest(like changa manga) should also be created to provide timber instead of cutting the natural forests.
