A special meeting of the federal cabinet on Thursday discussed the ongoing political situation in the country and the upcoming Senate elections, while Prime Minister Imran Khan updated the ministers about his visit to Sri Lanka.
The federal cabinet approved a new agreement with Qatar for the import of the liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to sources, a new LNG import agreement would be signed with Qatar on Friday (today).
While considering the Senate election strategy, the prime minister tasked the ministers with an effective liaison between the government and its coalition members. Imran said the opposition was pursuing a politics of money, which would be defeated in the upcoming election.
“We want transparency and the rule of law, If those coming to parliament are accused of using money, how could they represent the people?” he said. “We believe in merit and want a transparent system of merit.”
The meeting also discussed the arrest of Haleem Adil Sheikh, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly. The cabinet condemned the arrest of Sheikh by the Sindh government.
