Ukrainian poet’s 150th birth anniversary today

Special addresses on her life and works will be delivered by Ukrainian Ambassador to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), in collaboration with the Embassy of Ukraine, will organise a joint adventure programme on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Lesya Ukrainka, one of Ukrainian literature’s foremost writers will be held on Thursday (today) at the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Auditorium at PAL.

Special addresses on her life and works will be delivered by Ukrainian Ambassador to Pakistan Markian Chuchuk and Federal Minister for Federal Education, Professional Training and National Heritage and Culture Shafqat Mahmood. PAL Chairman Dr Yousuf Khushk will present the welcome address.

A presentation on the life and works of Lesya Ukrainka, best known for her poems and plays, will be given by Dr Olena Bordilovska while declamation of one of her works, ‘Forest Song’, will be presented in Urdu by Nadia Zulqurnane.

Musical performances will also be held, thanks to the Ukrainian Embassy and the Lok Virsa. The event will be concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by National Heritage and Culture Division Secretary Nausheen Javaid Amjad.
