Three different models of new local government (LG) system have been finalised to be sent to the prime minister for approval after high level consultations by the designated committee set up to evaluate the LG system of Punjab.
A high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan at the Chief Minister House considered various aspects of the Punjab Local Government Act 2019 and presented recommendations to make appropriate changes in the existing local bodies system.
Various recommendations such as devolution of power and resolution of problems at the local level were approved during the meeting. Aleem Khan said that the purpose of the committee meeting was to remove ambiguities in the Punjab LG Act 2019.
