Zack Snyder has finally elaborated on the reason he won’t be getting paid to finish his cut of Justice League.
For the past few months, the film-maker has been hard at work, creating a version of the film which is drastically different from the version released in 2017, helmed by Joss Whedon, who altered much of Snyder's original plans.
For his version, Snyder is utilising the unused footage at his disposal, along with reshooting a few scenes. He has also added Jared Leto's Joker to the mix, along with characters excluded from the theatrical version. But despite the amount of work being put into his film, Snyder isn't getting paid a single cent.
Though he had previously confirmed he won’t be earning a paycheck, he has finally elaborated on why, in a new feature for Vanity Fair. It is said that his release will cost Warner Bros. around $70 million, in return of which, they will receive a major piece of content for the growing HBO Max and the excellent story of Snyder's comeback.
Snyder, meanwhile, gets nothing and that was intentional on his part. "I’m not getting paid," he said. "I didn’t want to be beholden to anyone and it allowed me to keep my negotiating powers with these people pretty strong."
Snyder has chosen creative control over dollars and that in itself screams power. Officially named Zack Snyder's Justice League, the four-hour film will debut on HBO Max in March.
