'PK 2' in the works with Ranbir Kapoor, confirms Rajkumar Hirani

2014 hit the talk of the town when it was released, due to its thought-provoking storyline and star-studded cast

Bollywood film PK became the talk of the town when it released back in 2014. The Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer was touted to be a blockbuster, courtesy of its thought-provoking storyline and star-studded cast. At the end of the film, Aamir's character returns to Earth as an alien, accompanied by a friend, played by actor Ranbir Kapoor. This left audiences wondering whether we will see the latter as the protagonist in the much-talked-about sequel.

While there wasn't much buzz surrounding the second installment of the film, film-maker Rajkumar Hirani has finally confirmed that a sequel is officially underway, reported Mid-Day.

The Munna Bhai director told the publication, "We will make the sequel. We had shown Ranbir [Kapoor’s character landing on the planet] towards the end of the film, so there is a story to tell. But Abhijat [Joshi, writer] has not written it yet. The day he writes it, we will make it."

Hirani added, "We are not in the business of making money, we are in the business of making cinema. If making money [was our goal], by now, we would have made six to seven [installments of] Munna Bhai, and two to three [editions of] PK. We seek joy, happiness and peace over a few crores.

Previously, Hirani directed Ranbir in Sanju, which released in 2018 and was a box office hit. The same year, when the filmmaker was asked about a PK sequel, he had said, "Upon the end of the script, nobody was happy that Aamir's character would just leave the planet. Hence, we decided to show PK return to planet earth with another native from his planet."
