ISLAMABAD:

In a ruling favouring teachers working in the capital, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday suspended the order of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) barring the repatriation of teachers who were deployed in the federal educational institutions on deputation from the provinces.

During the hearing, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that teachers on deputation would be allowed to go to schools as per the wedlock policy.

The court, while suspending the order of the FDE dated December 11, said it could not be upheld.

The court summoned the FDE director general at the next hearing to explain why the teachers who have been working since 2006 or earlier are being evicted.

It said the FDE director legal was ill-informed about the law. The CJ said the official was misleading the court and such unilateral decisions compelled teachers to protest.

The court adjourned the hearing till March 9.
