Girl commits suicide over engagement

TAKHT BHAI:

A young woman committed suicide here in Takhtabahi area of Mardan district of K-P.

Police said that the woman Yasmin was not happy with her recent engagement as she did not like the boy but her family wanted her to marry him nevertheless and proceeded with the engagement ceremony.

“She didn’t want to marry a relative but the family and parents insisted it. She was not happy with the development and after several days of discussion with parents took her own life. She took a pistol and committed suicide. The poor girl was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival,” a police official told The Express Tribune, adding that her father Shirin lodged a report with police on which investigation had been started.

Police said that Yasmin was a school teacher by profession and she wanted to have a well-educated husband so she was against her marriage to a close relative but her parents and family decided otherwise.

It is worth mentioning here that a few weeks ago another female school teacher Naheed also committed suicide in Takhtbahi. She was married and she shot herself inside her house. Police said that she was 35 year old .
