RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi Additional District and Sessions Judge Malik Ijaz Asif on Tuesday granted interim bail to the Airport police station’s assistant sub-inspector (ASI) who has been booked for allegedly colluding with the suspects nominated in a killing incident in Gojra.

The court barred the police from arresting the ASI until February 1, while summoning the complete record of the case at the next hearing.

ASI Nasar Hayat is accused of releasing detained suspects from the lock-up to carry out an offence and then locking them up again after they had committed the crime.

According to the details, a few days earlier, Nasar had purportedly detained four residents of Tehsil Gojra, including Fakhar Abbas, in the Airport police station limits in the morning and set them free in the evening.

Allegedly, the suspects went to Gojra and killed a person after which they returned to the Airport police station. The next morning, all four suspects were released on bail even though a first information report (FIR) had been registered against them at the Gojra police station.

Later, during the investigation, all four suspects maintained that they had been detained at the airport police station on the day of the killing in Gojra and had been released on bail the next day.

However, due to the alleged collusion with the suspects, City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ahsan Younus had ordered the registration of a case against the ASI.

However, Hayat was not arrested by police and later he obtained interim bail from the court. The relatives of the Gojra murder victim are likely to appear before the court at the next hearing along with the Gojra police station staff.
