Disappointing and shallow: First teaser of 'Chaudhry - A Martyr' fails to impress

Based on the life of slain cop Chaudhry Aslam, the minute-long clip seems to have missed the mark completely

The first teaser of the biopic on the slain police officer Chaudhry Aslam is finally out. Titled Chaudhry - The Martyr, the film revolves around his life and martyrdom. The brave officer of the police was considered a symbol of fear for the terrorists. Announcing war against them, even after an attack on his own home, testifies his gallantry. The minute-long teaser captures the raw and gritty journey of Aslam in the upcoming project.

However, the first clip fails to impress with the unwanted glitz and glamour. As the teaser starts, we see a very 'Mehbooba'-esque inspired sequence, rather unnecessary in our opinion. It continues as grappling sounds of bullets take over the screen and we see the first look of Aslam in all his glory. Cut to the cue and we are taken back to the item numbers - which at this point are just plain disappointing.

The teaser itself fails to hold the attention for more than 20 seconds. When working on a subject as brilliant as the story of Aslam, the film-makers seem to have missed the mark completely. However, we hope the film itself is more engaging than the first look.

Chaudhry - The Martyr is directed by the renowned Azeem Sajjad and actor Tariq Aslam as the late cop, in his signature white shalwar kameez. It also stars famous actor Arbaz Khan, Asfar Mani, Shamoon Abbasi and Adnan Shah Tipu. .Earlier, talking to The Express Tribune, Sajjid had shared that the film is a tribute to the martyred SSP. Khan plays the role of former SSP Rao Anwar while Abbasi reportedly plays the role of an accomplice to Aslam.

Chaudhry - The Martyr is an attempt to highlight the efforts of the late SSP to keep Karachi peaceful and unharmed. “About 90% of the shooting of the film is being done in Karachi while 10% will be done in Abbottabad,” revealed the director. The film, in addition to depicting Aslam’s life, also showcases a few important incidents that have occurred in the city. It is expected to attract local as well as international viewers.

Services of Special Service Unit (SSU) of the police have also been sought to train the actors. It is pertinent here to mention that Aslam embraced martyrdom on January 9 2014, after succumbing to a terror attack on Lyari Expressway. The film is being made under the Laaj Production banner.
