Two minor girls, woman burnt to death by relatives

Police book immolators, continue investigations

DERA GHAZI KHAN/ DIJKOT:

A man confessed to having burnt to death his two minor daughters in Dera GhaziKhan, while a woman was allegedly murdered in a similar manner by her husband in Faisalabad, police disclosed on Sunday.

In DG Khan, Abdul Hameed, father of 3-year-old Aswa and 18-month-old Urwa turned out to be their killer. Both the sisters died of severe burns injuries on January 7 in the area of Karam Dad Qureshi police station. Hameed had filed a double murder case against his third wife’s parents.

When police started investigating the incident, the father of the minor girls was interrogated on suspicion. Regional Police Officer DIG Muhammad Faisal Rana monitored the investigation from the camp office after Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and IG Punjab Inam Ghani issued instructions in this regard.

According to the police, Hameed soon confessed that he had sprayed gasoline on his two daughters who were sleeping together in a quilt and thrown burning coals on the petrol. As a result, the two girls were burnt to death. DPO Muzaffargarh Hassan Iqbal said the father had also confessed that he wanted to implicate his third wife’s family in the double murder.

The DPO informed the RPO about the details of the case registered in Karam Dad Qureshi police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other provisions for the murder of two girls by burning them to death.

The RPO said the officers, including the DPO, who had solved the case would be given departmental awards. The RPO directed the DPO to oversee the investigation of the case. He affirmed that any facilitators of the murder should be arrested and the suspected killer should be charged with concrete evidence to ensure that he gets strict punishment from the court.

In a separate incident in Dijkot, a man, along with his father and brother were accused of setting his wife on fire for not bringing money from her parents’ house. According to the police report, Yasiya, a resident of Madanpura, was married on November 17, 2018 to Muhammad Tayyab. Her in-laws treated her well for the first two years but when her husband the situation deteriorated after her husband left his job. The couple started arguing over daily household expenses and Tayyab’s family started asking Yasia to bring money from her parents’ house, which she did not do.

On January 17, Yasia was set on fire by her husband along with her in-laws after throwing a flammable substance over her after an altercation. She was badly burned and taken to Allied Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police took the body into their custody and handed it over to the victim’s family after postmortem and registered a case. The RPO took notice of the incident, sought a report from CPO Sohail Chaudhry and issued orders to arrest the suspects. The case was registered against the husband of the slain Yasia, Muhammad Tayyab, his brother Muhammad Amjad and father Muhammad Azam under sections 302 and 436 / 34 PPC.

On the other hand, Tayyab, the accused in the case, claimed that his wife Yasia was badly burnt in the house a few days ago when her clothes caught fire from a heater. His father and brother rushed her to the hospital where she stated in front of the doctors that no one had set her on fire, he added. SHO Ghulam Muhammadabad Inspector Waheed Shahid said the matter was being investigated after the registration of the case.
