Mustafaabad police arrested a man who allegedly shot dead his sister over domestic dispute on Sunday.
Police said that Kousar Perveen, a resident of New Colony, Mustafaabad, submitted an application in which she stated that her son Wasim Akhtar quarreled with his sister Sawera Bibi over a domestic dispute. In a fit of rage, the accused opened fire, killing his sister on the spot. Wasim later threw the body into BRB canal near Katlohi and managed to escape.
Police registered a case and arrested the accused Wasim while further investigation was underway. Cases of murder by sibling over domestic disputes were not uncommon in Punjab. On August 18, a man was arrested for killing his younger sister with an axe for not serving him a cup of tea in breakfast in a village near Arifwala. Arshad, son of Shabbir, a resident of village 40EB, struck his sister’s head with an axe after a bitter argument over not serving him tea with the breakfast.
After the attack, 25-year-old Sameera Bibi died on the spot while the accused managed to flee from the scene.
On April 5, a man killed his sister after a minor argument in Chak Jhumra. Reportedly, Imran Ali, son of Aslam, a resident of Chak No 187RB, had an argument with his 16-year-old sister Mafia during a dinner. Their father Aslam tried to resolve the fight.
Early in the morning, Ali shot his sister while she was asleep. She succumbed to her injuries and died.
When Aslam confronted his son, he threatened his father with a pistol and said that if he tried to come near him, he would kill him too.
The accused managed to escape. In October 2019, a man with his brother and cousin as accomplices had reportedly chopped off his wife’s nose after she had refused to make tea for him.
