LAHORE:

Additional District and Sessions Judge Zulfiqar Ali has fixed January 30 for arguments on an application filed by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Political Communication Shehbaz Gill for acquittal from a defamation suit of a company that had sought action against him under section 499 and 500 of Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly leveling false allegations on it.

Gill’s counsel contended in the application that the suit filed against his client was based on false allegations and prayed to the court to stop proceedings against him. The counsel also submitted an application seeking exemption for Gill from personal appearance on the next date. The judge reserved decision on the application.

Strict security arrangements were made outside the court premises and no litigant was allowed to enter the courtroom.

The company involved in public transport and waste management services had accused Gill of making defamatory allegations during a talk show in his personal capacity.

The petitioner stated that it was one of the companies of Albayrak Group of companies, which belongs to Turkey.
