The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), in a letter written to the Ministry of Energy, has expressed grave concern regarding the supply of gas during the summer season.

KATI stressed on the importance of supplying the required amount and pressure of gas to the existing power-plants of K-Electric, according to the letter.

The association emphasised that the gas requirement of K-Electric should be fulfilled to ensure a consistent supply of electricity all over Karachi, especially during the summer season.

“In this regard, a Gas-Sale Agreement (GSA) should be signed between Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and K-Electric, for the benefit of Karachi,” it said.

In the letter, KATI also highlighted the need for signing an agreement with Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), for the supply of RLNG to ensure timely commissioning of additional power plant.

Appreciating the positive measures taken for the supply of an additional 1,400 megawatts of electricity from the national grid, for Karachi, the association said, “Pakistan’s industrial sector is now on its way to revival, once again, after the economic crisis caused by the global pandemic.”

KATI expects complete cooperation and support from the Ministry of Energy, especially during the summer season when the demand for electricity rises.

According to sources, the construction work on K-Electric’s new 900MW, RLNG plant located at Bin Qasim, is moving at a rapid pace, to ensure its completion before the summer season.
