ATC records statements of Uzair in attempted murder, explosives cases

KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court recorded the statements of Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch and other accused on Friday. The ATC was hearing three out of the eight on-going cases against Uzair and others at the Karachi Central Jail. 
How does a rocket launcher explode, asked the court of Uzair, during the hearing. Uzair replied that a rocket springs out of the launcher and explodes when it hits an object, such as a car. Uzair added that he has seen this happen in movies.   

Following this, the court inquired whether debris, or pieces, of the rocket can be found after it explodes.
Pleading ignorance, Uzair stated that the bomb disposal squad may know better. How should I know, asked Uzair. 
Addressing Amin Buledi, another accused, the court asked if he wanted to say anything about the Pakistan Peoples Party. 
Buledi replied that he didn’t want to say anything about it. But Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the chairperson of the party, added Buledi. 

The charges against the accused are of attempt to murder and possession of explosives, remarked the court.
At this, Uzair maintained that they were innocent and that these are fake allegations.
After recording the statements of Uzair, Buledi and two other accused, the ATC adjourned the hearing till the end of this month, when the final arguments will be presented by the counsels. 
The three cases against the accused, pertaining to attempted murder and possession of explosive materials, were lodged at the Napier and Kalakot Police Stations.
Sent on remand 

Separately, an ATC handed over three accused, including Rehman Dakait’s son, to the police for physical remand till January 20 in the case pertaining to the abduction and murder of a minor boy. 
The investigation officer informed the court that the accused, Saiban, Danish and Maula Bakhsh, were arrested on charges of kidnapping a 12-year-old footballer, Abdur Rehman, and torturing him to death. 
According to the IO, the minor boy was abducted on December 12, 2020, from the limits of Chakiwara Police Station and his body was found in the limits of Baghdadi Police Station on December 20. The IO added that the accused had burnt the body to make it unrecognisable. 

Granting the IO’s request for physical remand, the ATC handed over the accused till January 20, 2021. 
Earlier this week, the mother-in-law of the Lyari gangster, Rehman Dakait, had approached the Sindh High Court seeking the recovery of her grandson. 
Petitioner, Gul Nisa, had maintained in her plea that two plain clothed officials had detained Saiban on Jan 8, 2020, and that since then she was unaware of his whereabouts. She had alleged that the law enforcement agencies were not giving her information on Saiban. The Sindh Rangers DG, Sindh IGP, provincial home department, Chakiwara Police and others were nominated as parties in the plea. 
‘RAW-linked terrorist’

Another ATC sent an alleged terrorist on physical remand till January 18 in a case pertaining to possession of weapons and ammunition. 
The police produced Mansoor Ali alias Aneel, who was arrested a day earlier, before the court. 
The IO maintained that Mansoor is affiliated with the Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army, a group supported by the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
The IO further stated that a large cache of weapons and explosives, including a kilogramme of explosive material and two receivers of a landmine, were found in the possession of the accused.
The IO requested physical remand of Mansoor for interrogation about his accomplices and facilitators. 
Granting the IO’s request, the ATC handed over Mansoor for physical remand till January 18.
