Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Thursday the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) would hold protest outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on January 19 to demand its verdict in the foreign funding case.
Talking to the media along with Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and other party leaders and workers, Aurangzeb claimed that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had admitted to receiving illegal foreign funding through 23 accounts.
“The PTI has admitted that agents may have received illegal funding. PTI does not deny that the funding did not reach their accounts,” she told reporters. “So, why the Election Commission is not making a decision?” she asked.
“The decision should be written as the people of Pakistan are coming to get the verdict on January 19,” she said. This case was filed in 2014, now it is 2021. “On January 19, the people are coming to the Election Commission for its decision.”
Unfolding plans for the protest next week, Aurangzeb said that PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz will lead the party procession, while all the PDM leaders will arrive at the Election Commission.
The PML-N spokesperson also criticised Prime Minister’s Adviser on Accountability Shehzad Akbar, who had sent a defamation notice to her, saying that when he [Akbar] waves papers and levels allegations of corruption against the opposition, he did not think of other persons’ honour.
“Instead of giving me a defamation notice,” she said, the adviser should answer the questions of Kaveh Moussavi – the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Broadsheet LLC – who had alleged that commission was demanded from him.
Aurangzeb said that it had been 24 months since the cases against PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif were launched, but still the government was unable to prove corruption of even 24 paisas against him. She added that the government was wasting public funds to discredit former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
