Over 20kgs of gunpowder seized from fireworks dealer

Officials say bomb disposal squad was called to handle huge quantity of fireworks

Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a trader alleging him of dealing in fireworks and firecrackers.

Officials said that Gunjmandi police had to call the bomb disposal squad of Civil Defence Department to handle the huge quantity of fireworks loaded with over 20kgs of highly explosive gunpowder.

The Gungmandi police acting on report by an informer conducted a raid at Amir Karwan Goods Forwarding Agency and seized a cache of fireworks prepared of dangerous gunpowder weighing 21 kilogrammes and arrested Amir.

Sensing the volatility of the seized goods, police party called the bomb disposal squad of Civil Defence which after analysing the fireworks, confirmed that the rockets were prepared with enough gunpowder to blow up the warehouse where these were kept.

A case has been registered against the accused while further investigation is under way.
