Labour dept to dole out social security cards for workers

Card holders will avail free of cost medical treatment, scholarships

The Sindh labour department will be issuing social security cards, titled, ‘Benazir Mazdoor Cards’ to industrial workers beginning this month.

According to sources affiliated with the provincial labour department, the cards will be issued to industrial workers through the National Database and Registration Authority and will enable card holders to avail free of cost medical treatment, scholarships and other grants from the government.

As many as 625,000 registered industrial workers are to be given the Benazir Mazdoor Cards in the first phase. Sources further stated that the provincial government has provided NADRA with Rs1 billion for the welfare scheme.

The cards will be issued by NADRA so as to thwart attempts by counterfeiters and avoid potential irregularities by officials of the labour department, they added.
