Donald Trump, who had 88.8 million followers on Twitter, was “de-platformed” by the company this week, after years of being called upon to block his account and stop the spread of misinformation.
Prior to his permanent exile from Twitter, on Friday, Trump’s account had been temporarily suspended on three separate occasions for “repeated and severe violations of our civic integrity policy.” The likes of Sacha Baron Cohen had requested Twitter and Facebook to ban the POTUS for inciting violence through the application. “Hey Mark Zuckerberg, Donald Trump just incited a violent attack on American democracy. Is that finally enough for you to act?! It’s time to ban Donald Trump from your platforms once and for all?” he posted.
Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi also took a jibe at Facebook on Thursday after Trump was suspended for merely 24 hours – that too after Twitter suspended him. “Trump suspended from tweeting. FB finally ‘oh shucks’ and follows.”
But today, the tech giant announced the banning of Trump’s Twitter account for good, over fears of him “inciting further violence” in the US.
After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.https://t.co/CBpE1I6j8Y

"After a close review of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said in their statement.
Soon after, many Twitter users celebrated and celebrities rejoiced as well. Pakistani actor Osman Khalid Butt shared Twitter’s announcement saying, “Whoa!” while an excited Armeena Khan wrote, “OH MY GODDD!!!”

We did it!” lauded Cohen.

The world’s largest platforms have banned the world's biggest purveyor of lies, conspiracies and hate.
To every Facebook and Twitter employee, user and advocate who fought for this--the entire world thanks you! pic.twitter.com/jihFaOA39G
Whereas, actor Kevin McHale wrote, “This isn't about censorship or free speech. It's about protecting lives. Trump's words have now directly lead to five deaths and an attack on the US Capitol. Twitter and other tech companies should always ban anyone who incites and encourages violence – especially when they have a big platform.”

Supermodel Chrissy Teigen was overjoyed by the ban, simply writing, "AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH." Oscar-winning actor Whoopi Goldberg tweeted "Finally" while author Stephen King also praised Twitter for the move, saying “it makes me proud to be a Twitterhead.”
