NAB indicts former LDA director general

Illegal assets of Ahad Cheema valued over Rs600 million

An accountability court has indicted former director general of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema on Friday.

In a supplementary a reference has been filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in assets beyond means case. Accountability Court Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry has conducted the case proceedings of the case, wherein the jail authorities produced Ahad Cheema in the court.

The court has indicted Ahad Cheema in supplementary reference filed by the bureau. However, Cheema pleaded 'not guilty' and opted to contest trial. The matter has been adjourned by the court till January 13.

Whereas, the bureau has been further directed to produce its witnesses on the next date of hearing. It is pertinent to mention here that the court had already recorded statements of 34 witnesses so far. NAB has alleged that Ahad Cheema has accumulated assets in and outside the country beyond his known sources of income.

It said the illegal assets possessed by Cheema valued over Rs 600 million. As per the details given present in the reference the bureaucrat also held 'benami' properties in the names of his wife and other family
