Snowfall draws tourists to Galiyat
Tourists from across the country thronged Nathia Galli and its adjoining areas of Galiyat as snowfall continued in the hill resort on Monday.
Thousands of tourists from all over the country had arrived in Galiyat to enjoy the snowfall of the winter at Changla Galli, Dunga Galli, Nathia Galli, Kalabagh, and Ayubia.
The local hotels and restaurants were enjoying brisk business at the peak of winter tourism season. Almost all small and big hotels were booked. “We don’t even have space to accommodate people in the lobby,” said a resort owner. Nathia Galli considered the hub of Galiyat, was flooded with tourists in this cold weather.
There was a great rush in restaurants and cafes that people had to wait for hours to get seats for tea and meal. Galiyat Circle DSP Jameelur Rehman Qureshi told The Express Tribune that he along with his deployed police staff remained at the sites during snowfall spells to monitor traffic and guide tourists and continued to coordinate with the district administration, GDA and the highways department for ensuring necessary arrangements to clear snow from the roads.
He advised tourists to come fully equipped, with proper shoes and jackets, if they plan on visiting Galiyat during snow. He said tourists should not park on the road to take photographs, as this can affect the rest of the traffic. Drivers should also avoid making double lines and overtaking other vehicles so that traffic may flow smoothly.
