
A National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) was informed on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had not imposed any ban on hiring workforce from Pakistan.
In a meeting, with Sheikh Fayyaz ud Din in the chair, the committee was also informed that 76,968 Pakistanis workers had returned to the country, owing to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the host countries.
Briefing the committee, OP&HRD Secretary Hashim Popalzai said that there was no ban in the UAE on hiring workforce from Pakistan. He added that UAE’s Minister of Human Resources Nasser Bin Thani Al Hamli had also issued an statement in this regard.
The secretary said that among the 76,968 returning Pakistanis, 34,731 workers had came back from Saudi Arabia and another 29,419 from the UAE because of the economic impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on these countries.
The committee was also informed about a memorandum of understanding signed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbelt with the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) on behalf of the German ministry for economic cooperation and development for the establishment of a Pak-German Facilitation and Reintegration Centre here to support returning Pakistani workers.
While discussing the agenda pertaining to the performance of Community Welfare Attaches (CWAs) in Saudi Arabia and gulf countries, the secretary expressed satisfaction over their performance. The chair said a performance evaluation policy regarding CWAs would be finalised shortly.
