RAWALPINDI:

A man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Rawalpindi’s Sadiqabad area, a police spokesperson said on Friday. The rape survivor told the Sadiqabad police that she was visiting the police station since November as part of investigations into a case. “Aqeel and I met there,” she said, claiming that her assailant was a constable at the station. “He obtained my phone number from somewhere and started messaging me on Whatsapp,” she claimed. On December 13, the suspect called her and asked her to come to his house, claiming that there had been a development in her case. Convinced, the victim said that she went to the constable’s house. “When I reached there, he took me to a room where he raped me,” she told the police. She filed a complaint against the official on Friday. The police subsequently apprehended Aqeel, lodged a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code, and launched an investigation. The victim’s brother has been detained as well. The Sadiqabad SHO said that DNA samples will be obtained from the suspect and the victim and sent to the forensic laboratory for testing. He added that the police have also decided to send the survivor for a medical test to confirm her claims of sexual assault.
