Food security in K-P reviewed

Senior officials of the agriculture and irrigation departments also briefed the committee about progress

A provincial parliamentary body on Monday reviewed the food security situation in the province.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly’s Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Department met at the assembly secretariat on Monday with Arbab Waseem Khan in the chair. MPAs Babar Swati, Fazal Khan, Faisal Zeb, Zahir Shah, Jamshed Khan, Bahadur Khan, Naeema Khan, and officials of the department attended the meeting.

The department’s secretary Israr Khan and heads of various sectors briefed the participants about the current status of work it had undertaken in the province.

Senior officials of the agriculture and irrigation departments also briefed the committee about progress made on desilting canals and removal illegal encroachment of agricultural and irrigation lands.

Members of the committee appreciated the vision of the department on sustainable agriculture and livestock development in the province leading to food security.
