ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday observed that all the impediments in the provision of justice came from the government’s side while the courts were held responsible for the same.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah made these remarks while hearing a plea regarding the delay in the provision of justice to the people.

The court directed that Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar appear before it on December 24 for the purpose.

During the course of proceedings, chief justice Minallah remarked that the government was bound to provide quick justice to the people under the Constitution.

“See the situation of courts and how people are facing problems there,” the IHC CJ said while addressing the deputy attorney general.

The court maintained that it was not interested in the reports submitted by the government but wanted to know what practical steps had been taken.

It further noted that all the obstacles in the provision of justice came from the government’s side while the courts were accused for the same.

Justice Minallah observed that the state had failed to ensure quick provision of justice to the people.

The federal capital should have been model for other parts of the country, the chief justice added.

He granted a time period of 10 days to the attorney general to present a practical solution for quick dispensation of justice to the people warning otherwise the top-most official of the government would be summoned.

The court asked why the suggestions given by the bar councils and other respondents were not implemented.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until December 24.
