
The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) organised a three-day event titled Shaam-e-Adab at the Zia Mohiuddin Auditorium, where graduates of the institution captivated audience with dramatic readings of iconic works from Urdu literature.
The event opened with a performance by former student Ameer Akbar, who brought to life Khan Saiful Muluk Khan, a satirical piece by the celebrated humorist Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi.
This was followed by interpretations of writings under Unesco ki Chatri, presented by Mujhtaba Hussain, Kainat Muhammad, and Zubair Baloch. This is a travelogue in which the author attends a seminar during his trip to Japan and finds an umbrella there. A misunderstanding arises in his conversation with his wife in India, when she mistakes chatri meaning umbrella for chaatri meaning a student or a young woman and begins to doubt her husband's loyalty. The different roles of both the actors make the scene colorful.
A moving tribute to Patras Bukhari's famous essay Marhoom Ki Yaad Mein was performed by Akhtar Abbas and Qadeer Ahmed, drawing appreciation from literature enthusiasts in the audience.
One of the highlights of the evening came from NAPA graduate Zubair Baloch, who delivered a compelling reading of Basuday Ki Maryam by renowned writer Asad Muhammad Khan. His emotional range and nuanced delivery stood out among the evening's performances.Audience praised the high caliber of talent and the rich selection of classical prose, reflecting NAPA's enduring legacy in promoting performing arts and literature.
The event drew a large turnout and concluded with resounding applause and appreciation for the young performers reviving timeless works of Urdu literature.
