Traders of the federal capital have urged its civic authority to better develop the existing industrial areas of the city, particularly sectors I-9, I-10 and the Kahuta Industrial Triangle.
This was urged on Saturday by Fatima Azim, the acting president of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
She said that these industrial areas are playing a critical role in the development of the local economy. However, she said that these areas are facing multiple problems due to a lack of focus from the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Azam said that CDA has not done the requisite development work in these industrial areas for many years. As a result, infrastructure has deteriorated significantly.
She said that many roads in the industrial areas of Islamabad are broken which makes it difficult for heavy-duty vehicles to ensure timely supply and delivery of goods. Further, they cause these vehicles to break down often causing heavy losses.
ICCI’s acting chief also lamented the manifold increase in property taxes and water charges on industrial plots.
ICCI Vice President Abdul Rehman Khan said that a bridge over the nullah in Street 1 of Sector I-9 has been broken for a long time and is the source of a lot of accidents and losses to vehicles. Further, he said that a bridge is needed at Nullah Leh to provide easy access to the Sector I-10/3 market and urged the CDA to consider building a bridge as soon as possible.
