Four members of a family were found dead at their home on Sehari road, in the jurisdiction of Sheikhum police station here on Saturday.
According to police, the family of brick kiln worker Tanvir (52) slept after taking meal on Friday night. This morning, a neighbour found Tanvir in precarious condition and found dead his wife Asia Bibi (44), daughter Iqra (7), sons- Afzal (5) and Tayyab (2). Rescue-1122 shifted the bodies to DHQ hospital Kasur for postmortem. Police told APP that tainted meal might be the cause of their death. However, Sheikhum police are looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed a deep senseof sorrow and grief over the death of mother and three children due to eating allegedly poisoned food in Kasur.
The Chief Minister has sought a report from Commissioner Lahore Division and police authorities, and directed to investigate the incident.
This is not the only case of food poisoning across the province. On September 7, at least 12 members of two families, including nine children, were rushed to a hospital after consuming toxic food in Samnabad area in Faisalabad.
Two families living in a house near College Road in Samnabad area had meal, after which they started vomiting.
They were provided medical aid by Rescue 1122 staff and shifted to the General Hospital, Samnabad.
A day earlier, at least six people suffered from food poisoning after eating from a restaurant in Faisalabad. Reportedly, 28-year-old Kashif Ali, 18-year-old Shahbaz, 25-year-old Asad, 20-year-old Rizwan, 25-year-old Ejaz and 23-year-old Bilal ate at the restaurant in Civil Lines, after which their health deteriorated.
They were shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad in a state of unconsciousness where they were provided medical treatment. On March 26 last year, 42 children at an orphanage in Dera Ghazi Khan contracted food poisoning. A total of 27 children were shifted to Teaching Hospital where they were provided medical intervention and then discharged.
Reportedly, the condition of 42 children at the orphanage deteriorated after they had their nightly meal. Many fell unconscious and several started vomiting. The children were shifted to Teaching Hospital where their stomachs were pumped.
The children contracted food poisoning as a result of consuming milk directly after eating lentils. Due to immediate medical intervention, the children were deemed to be out of danger and were discharged.
Reportedly, the children were given hygienic food according to the menu. However, they were also given milk right after the meal which caused their condition to deteriorate during the night.
