LAHORE:

The government has nothing to do with the corruption cases against the opposition leaders and the NAB’s actions, said Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar. “Whatever cases of corruption are in the court against opposition leaders, these cases have been filed by the parties themselves against one another.”

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Punjab President Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry at Governor’s House on Tuesday.

He stated, “The government is strong and united. General elections will be held in 2023. The opposition should also wait for the elections.”

He further said, “Neither the process of accountability will stop nor the opposition’s wish to send the government packing will fulfill. Even the desire to resign from the parliament cannot achieve their motive to halt accountability or topple the government.”

The governor stressed that right now, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was trying to embrace ‘political martyrdom’ through confrontation. “The government has nothing to do with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cases against opposition leaders. All state institutions are independent in domain.”

He commented that ever since the PTI came into power, the opposition parties were spreading negative propaganda but they had not succeeded in their intentions earlier and will not succeed in the future. “If they want to resign, we are not stopping them. Their resignations will be accepted according to the constitution and by-elections will be held in relevant constituencies.”
