The dragons are back! Seems like the wait for Game of Thrones fans is likely to be over soon as the prequel of the magnum opus is finally set to roll!

Though the Emmy winning show ended after eight seasons in 2019, author George RR Martin’s sprawling world continues to take on new forms on television. Now, HBO has shared first-look concept art from House of the Dragon, the upcoming spinoff series from co-creators Martin and Ryan Condal, reported Variety.

The first peek at the new show was unveiled when HBO parent company Warner Bros’ big announced that all of its 2021 movies will stream on HBO Max alongside theatrical runs wherever possible. The shooting for the show will begin in 2021.

Based on Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon will tell the story of the House of Targaryen (also known as the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and take place 300 years before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.

The network announced House of the Dragon at an event intended to stir enthusiasm for HBO Max, a streaming service that will launch in May 2020 at $15 per month to compete with Netflix Inc and Walt Disney Co.

Earlier, Hollywood publications reported that HBO had scrapped plans for a Game of Thrones prequel starring Naomi Watts. A source familiar with the decision confirmed the reports were accurate.

The 10-episodes of House of the Dragon will be filmed mainly in England at Leavesden Studios in Watford, outside London, where another WarnerMedia property, Matt Reeves’ The Batman, is currently shooting.
